  1. History:- The NRM in Delhi is the great place to visit for railway enthusiasts and history buffs. It is located at Chanakyapuri and came to existence on 1st February 1977 and spans over an area of 11 acres now. But before, the foundation stone of the museum was laid on 7th October, 1971 by the late president of India shri V.V Giri and the inauguration was done by late Rail Minister shri Kamalapati Tripathi.

2. Outdoor Gallery:- The museum houses the extensive collection of steam, diesel and electric locomotives like E.L 4502 Sir Lesile Wilson, E.L. Sir Roger Lumley along with royal saloons like Saloon of Maharaja of Baroda, Saloon of Prince of Wales, Saloon of Maharaja of Mysore and along with wagons, carriages, armored trains, rail cars like Matheran Rail Car No. 8899, Cranetank etc.

Apart from these the main attraction of the museum is Fairy Queen, which is the world’s oldest working locomotive steam engine that built in 1855. And the Patiala State Monorail Teamway (PSMT) is also the oldest mono rail locomotive and coach in working station. These collections present in the outdoor gallery museum depicts nearly 163 years of glorious past of Indian railways

3. Indoor Gallery:- Rail Museum has an indoor gallery that comprises of six display galleries and railway yard. The museum has a AC conference hall consisting of approximate 20-25 seats. The indoor gallery displays interactive models and organizes exhibition related to early mode of transportation till date and future endeavors. You get an opportunity to see various signaling instruments, telecommunication system, rail uniforms etc.

4. Rides and 3D Simulators:- To enjoy a ride on Toy Train and Joy Train is a great opportunity offered by the museum to make you feel the childhood days. There is an also a virtual 3D ride available for you which is taken in indoor section of the museum.

5. The Rail Restaurant:- If you want to have an unique experience of getting served food then this restaurant is the best place. There’s a moving train that ran around the restaurant which runs beside the tables to deliver your ordered food to your table.

6. Souvenir Shop:- There is a souvenir shop inside the museum which is full of beautiful train models, postcards, posters, apparels, books etc. .that you can take home as memory.

7. Miniature India:- Located on the first floor of the museum, this is the notable part of the museum. It is a type of model that shows the important things like Wankhede Stadium, Indian Railway network, Metro, the dams and thee bridges and the Indian road network like Highway and how India has moving ahead as a country.

8. Photoshoot Opportunity:- It is one of the best places for photoshoot where you can get yourself clicked by mobile and captured by camera with beautiful engines and Vintage coaches.

9. Auditorium:- The museum has a auditorium with a seating capacity of 200 people.

How To Reach NRM :-

1.By train:- If traveling by train is happiness, then here is good news for those. The NRM is about two km away from the train station. You can book an Auto or App based cab (Uber or Ola) to reach the rail museum.

2. By bus :- Some buses are available to take you from Super Bazaar to NRM New Delhi within 45 minutes. Bus service is available every 20 minutes; do not worry about missing the bus.You can take the DTC bus service which drops you at Chanakyapuri.

3. By metro:- The rail museum nearest metro station is Sir Vishweshwariah Moti Bagh metro station that is located on the Pink Line of the Delhi Metro.

The Railway Museum entry ticket price depends on the days. Weekdays tickets are 50% lower as compared to weekend prices. Adults entry ticket charge for weekday is 50 Rs per head and 3 to 12 year children ticket price is 10 Rs only.

On weekends and government holidays adults entry fee is 100 Rs and children entry charge is just 20 rs. Kids under 3 years of age are eligible for free entry. Apart from the entry you can take different rides and activities offered by Railway museum. Joy train is a must try ride.

Railway museum Delhi timings are 10.00 AM to 5 PM and last entry can be availed till 4.30 PM. The museum remains closed on Monday and all national holidays. It also remains closed on the occasion of Holi, Diwali and Idu’l Fitr (Eid).
